For many business owners in Hong Kong and Singapore, Southeast Asia is no longer just a vacation market. It is becoming one of the most exciting regions for long-term investment, especially in tourism and real estate.

And lately, one place keeps appearing on investor radar: Lombok. At first glance, Lombok looks like a tropical paradise with beaches, surf spots, and mountains. But behind the scenery, the island is quietly transforming into a serious business destination with luxury resorts, international tourism projects, and growing global attention.

For Hong Kong and Singapore investors, this creates a very interesting opportunity. One of the biggest reasons is simple: Lombok is still early.

Compared to Bali, many areas in Lombok still offer relatively affordable land prices and lower competition. Investors have the chance to enter before the market becomes overcrowded. Several analysts even compare Lombok today to what Bali looked like many years ago, full of untapped potential.

The Indonesian government has heavily promoted tourism development in areas like Mandalika, including roads, airport access, and international sporting events such as MotoGP. Tourist arrivals in Lombok continue growing, especially after international exposure increased in recent years.

This matters for investors from Hong Kong and Singapore because both markets are already highly saturated and expensive. Property prices in those cities are among the highest in Asia, making it difficult for smaller businesses or lifestyle investors to enter new hospitality projects.

Lombok offers a completely different situation. Businesses can still secure large land opportunities, beachfront developments, or villa projects at prices far below Singapore or Hong Kong standards. That gives investors more room for long-term growth and higher upside potential.

Another reason is the changing lifestyle economy. Today, many professionals are looking for wellness-focused living, remote working destinations, and eco-luxury tourism. Lombok fits perfectly into this trend. The island attracts digital nomads, surfers, retirees, and luxury travelers who want quieter destinations outside Bali’s busy tourism zones.

One of the most talked-about developments is Samara Lombok, a massive 150-hectare integrated luxury resort project planned to open in 2028. The project recently secured significant international investment support and will include boutique hotels, luxury villas, sports facilities, dining concepts, and wellness-focused experiences. What makes the project even more interesting is its partnership with Hyatt Hotels through the first Destination by Hyatt property in Southeast Asia. For Singaporean and Hong Kong investors, this sends a strong signal that international hospitality brands are starting to believe in Lombok’s future.

There is also strategic geographic value. Indonesia has one of the largest populations in the world and a rapidly growing middle class. Hong Kong and Singapore businesses entering Indonesia are not only investing in tourism, they are positioning themselves inside Southeast Asia’s largest consumer economy.

Of course, investors still need to be careful. Like any emerging market, Lombok also attracts speculative projects and inexperienced operators. Proper legal checks, land verification, and due diligence remain extremely important before investing. Some online investor discussions also warn about project execution risks and the importance of choosing trusted partners.

Still, the momentum is difficult to ignore. Luxury tourism is growing. International brands are entering. Infrastructure keeps improving. And Lombok is slowly moving from a hidden island into one of Southeast Asia’s next major investment destinations.

For businesses in Hong Kong and Singapore looking for the “next Bali” before the market fully explodes, Lombok might be one of the smartest places to watch right now.
