Indonesia is becoming an increasingly interesting destination for German businesses, especially as the country continues to develop its industrial and clean-energy sectors. In August 2026, a German business delegation visited Jakarta to discuss new investment opportunities and explore ways to turn business interest into real projects.<\/p>\n

The meeting was part of the Indonesia-Germany Economic Partnership, which brought together Indonesian government officials, German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali Radovan, and representatives from German companies. The discussion focused on several sectors that could become important areas of future cooperation.<\/p>\n

One of the biggest topics was renewable energy. Indonesia is currently working to accelerate its transition toward cleaner energy, creating opportunities for international companies with experience in green technology. Germany sees potential in this area and is interested in strengthening its role in Indonesia’s sustainable development.<\/p>\n

According to Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Germany is already an important economic partner. More than 250 German companies are currently operating in Indonesia. Their combined investment between 2021 and 2026 reached around US$1.23 billion.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
That existing business relationship gives both countries a strong starting point. Now, Indonesia wants to attract even more German investment and move beyond discussions toward actual projects.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Besides renewable energy, semiconductors are also on the agenda. Indonesia wants to strengthen its semiconductor value chain and develop higher-value manufacturing. Germany, meanwhile, has strong experience in precision manufacturing, applied research, and industrial standards. This makes cooperation between the two countries potentially useful for Indonesia’s industrial ambitions.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Another interesting area is vocational education. Germany is well known for its vocational training system, which connects education closely with industry needs. Indonesia hopes to learn from this experience to develop a workforce that is better prepared for modern manufacturing, technology, and other growing industries.<\/p>\n

The two countries also discussed the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, or IEU-CEPA. If finalized as expected, the agreement could create additional opportunities for trade and investment between Indonesia and the European Union. For German companies, Indonesia could become an even more attractive base for doing business in the region.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Germany is also involved in Indonesia’s Just Energy Transition Partnership, or JETP, which supports the country’s move toward a cleaner energy system. Indonesia is looking for more financing for green-energy projects, including potential support through KfW, Germany’s state-owned development and investment bank.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For Jakarta, the main challenge now is turning interest into something concrete. Business delegations and meetings are useful, but the real impact will come when investment discussions become factories, renewable-energy projects, technology partnerships, and new jobs.<\/p>\n

Overall, the latest German delegation shows that Indonesia and Germany are looking beyond traditional trade.
