Indonesia is opening its doors wider to Spanish investors. The Indonesian Ambassador to Spain, Muhammad Najib, has invited Spanish businesspeople to explore investment opportunities in Indonesia, with several promising sectors already attracting interest.

The invitation is part of Indonesia’s effort to strengthen economic relations with Spain. Rather than simply discussing cooperation from a distance, the Indonesian Embassy in Madrid is preparing a Business Mission that will allow Spanish investors to visit Indonesia and see business opportunities directly.

According to the Indonesian Ambassador, Spanish businesses have shown interest in several strategic sectors. These include healthcare, infrastructure, the digital economy, sports, and higher education. The wide range of sectors shows that cooperation between Indonesia and Spain has plenty of room to grow.

The planned Business Mission is expected to take place in the first or second week of May. During the visit, Spanish businesspeople will have the opportunity to see Indonesia’s market more closely, meet potential local partners, and explore possible investment projects.

Interestingly, some of the Spanish entrepreneurs who are interested in Indonesia are not completely new to the country. Several have already visited Indonesia, while others already have business activities here. This existing experience could make it easier to develop cooperation into more concrete projects.

For new investors, Indonesia offers a large and diverse market. The country has a growing digital economy, developing infrastructure, a large consumer base, and opportunities in sectors connected to education, healthcare, and tourism. Spanish companies with technology, expertise, or established business models could potentially find opportunities by working with Indonesian partners.

The Business Mission will focus on several strategic locations, including Jakarta, Bandung, and the new capital city of Nusantara, or IKN. These locations offer different investment possibilities. Jakarta remains Indonesia’s major business center, while Bandung has a strong connection to education, technology, and creative industries. Meanwhile, IKN represents Indonesia’s long-term vision for a new center of government and economic development.

The Indonesian Embassy in Madrid has also started connecting Spanish investors with potential Indonesian partners through virtual meetings. This is a practical step because investors can begin discussing possible cooperation before traveling to Indonesia.

In fact, some of these meetings could eventually lead to a memorandum of understanding when investors visit Jakarta. That means the planned visit is not just about sightseeing or networking. It is designed to help businesses move from initial conversations toward actual cooperation.

For Indonesia, attracting Spanish investment can bring more than capital. It can also create opportunities for technology transfers, new jobs, business partnerships, and access to international networks. For Spanish companies, Indonesia can serve as an attractive entry point into the wider Southeast Asian market.

The invitation from Ambassador Muhammad Najib therefore sends a simple message to Spanish businesspeople: Indonesia is ready to talk business. With meetings already being prepared and investors being introduced to local partners, the next step is turning interest into real projects and long-term cooperation.
