Spain is showing growing interest in Indonesia as a place to build factories and reach international markets. During the 40th Trade Expo Indonesia, or TEI, in October 2025, Spanish representatives expressed strong interest in investing in Indonesia and potentially building a factory in the country.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The opportunity is attractive for a simple reason: Indonesia has access to a number of international trade agreements. According to Indonesia’s Trade Minister Budi Santoso, the country had 24 trade agreements covering 30 countries through different types of agreements, including PTA, FTA, and CEPA.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For Spanish companies, this could make Indonesia more than just a production location. It could become a business hub for selling products to Europe, Asia, and other markets.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
During the meeting, the Spanish delegation reportedly wanted to establish a factory in Indonesia specifically to support exports to the European Union. The exact type of factory had not yet been decided at the time, as the company still needed to study which products had the strongest market potential.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
One possible sector is textiles and fashion. The Indonesian Trade Minister mentioned products such as shoes, footwear, and ready-to-wear clothing as areas that could have strong demand in Europe.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This makes Indonesia an interesting choice. The country has a large workforce, a growing industrial sector, and an increasingly important position in international trade. Building a factory locally could also allow Spanish businesses to be closer to Asian markets while using Indonesia as a base for exports.<\/p>\n

The investment would be good news for Indonesia too. A new factory can create jobs, increase economic activity, and bring new technology and business knowledge into the country. It could also help Indonesian suppliers become part of international production chains.<\/p>\n

The discussion happened during TEI, an important event designed to connect Indonesian businesses with international buyers and investors. TEI itself focuses heavily on export opportunities and international business connections. The 2025 event recorded more than 1,600 exhibitors and over 8,000 international buyers.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Another important point is Indonesia’s effort to make investment procedures easier. Budi Santoso said the government would continue evaluating and improving licensing procedures so businesses could invest and operate more easily.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For Spain, building a factory in Indonesia could therefore be a long-term business strategy rather than simply an investment in one country. The company could use Indonesia as a bridge to reach different markets.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Of course, the plan was still at an early stage, and the exact factory and investment details had not been announced. Still, the interest itself is a positive sign for Indonesia.<\/p>\n

As global companies look for new production bases and export opportunities, Indonesia has a chance to attract more European investment.
