Indonesia has been looking to attract more foreign investors to support the development of Nusantara, the country’s new capital in East Kalimantan. Germany is among the countries watching the development closely.<\/p>\n

Nusantara is being developed from scratch in East Kalimantan as Indonesia’s planned new capital. The project has been presented as a major long-term development project, with the government seeking investment from both domestic and international investors.<\/p>\n

For Germany, the development of Nusantara is something worth following. Thomas Graf, deputy head of mission of the German Embassy in Indonesia, said Germany was observing the capital relocation process with great interest. He also acknowledged that the project requires a substantial amount of funding.<\/p>\n

This does not necessarily mean that Germany has already committed major investment to Nusantara. Instead, German officials have been watching how the project develops and how Indonesia continues to open opportunities for international investors.<\/p>\n

Interest in a Smart City<\/strong><\/p>\n

One interesting area is smart-city development. Nusantara is being planned with modern infrastructure and technology as part of its development concept.<\/p>\n

The Nusantara Capital Authority previously said German investors were interested in helping develop the new capital as a smart city. Germany is not the only country showing interest. Investors from countries including South Korea, the United States, France, China, and Finland have also expressed interest in the project.<\/p>\n

Germany also has a connection with Nusantara through Siemens. Earlier, the Indonesian government and German technology company Siemens signed a memorandum of understanding related to smart-city cooperation.<\/p>\n

For Indonesia, this type of interest is important because developing a new capital requires more than buildings and roads. It also needs technology, transportation, waste management, energy systems, and other modern services.<\/p>\n

Why East Kalimantan?<\/strong><\/p>\n

East Kalimantan has become increasingly important because it is home to Nusantara. The development is expected to create opportunities across different sectors, including infrastructure, technology, construction, and urban services.<\/p>\n

At the same time, attracting foreign investors requires Indonesia to show that the project is progressing and that investment opportunities are clear.<\/p>\n

The Indonesian government has therefore continued its efforts to introduce Nusantara to international investors. The goal is to encourage more private-sector participation while developing the infrastructure needed for the new capital.<\/p>\n

For German companies, Nusantara could potentially offer opportunities in areas where German technology and expertise are relevant, particularly smart-city systems and other infrastructure-related fields.<\/p>\n

However, interest and observation should not be confused with confirmed investment. The German diplomat’s comments showed that Germany was monitoring the project’s progress, while the Nusantara authority had reported interest from German investors.<\/p>\n

As Nusantara continues to develop, attention from Germany and other international markets shows how Indonesia is trying to position East Kalimantan as an important destination for global investment.
